The mainstay of the successful Fatorda Forward campaign was the fielding of almost all new and young candidates from various backgrounds and the implementation of the Sunday Dialogues programme, ward wise public meetings held much before the elections. Can this template of people looking for change, vesting their hopes on fresh new clean candidates be a fore runner of true citizen’s politics. Herald speaks to the people of Margao and Fatorda

The result happened because it was in sync with the demands of Margao citizens that new faces only should come forward
– Adv Rajeev Gomes
It was important to give a chance to new people and also the fact that there were educated and highly qualified people in the panel made a huge difference.
“ Margao has been backward and we have had the same councillors. That is one of the reasons why Margao failed and Fatorda worked
– Dixon Vaz, activist and Fatorda resident
I could locate in the Fatorda model new faces, good mix of candidates in respect of education levels and representation to all communities. This was accompanied by an aggressive campaign using all forms of communication; the door to door and corner meetings. There is space for a new political initiative for 2017 and Fatorda results could motivate this process. The opportunity is there and congress has still not reached the acceptability levels of the electorate
– Prabhakar Timble, Social activist, writer, educationist
