MARGAO: Candidates backed by Citizen’s Choice Panel on Tuesday appealed to the people of Margao to vote for them at the upcoming Margao Municipal Council elections and if elected will bring down the house tax by 50 per cent and also set up a single window system for paying taxes.

Speaking to the media persons, Royston Gomes, who is the panel candidate in Ward No 7 lamented that the Fatorda Congress had to copy their manifesto while the BJP candidates were making false promises of jobs and said there is no hope in the candidates backed by political parties and hence they were the only option.
He said despite being a member of the Scheduled Tribe he was contesting from a general ward not only because he has confidence in himself but also because he was confident that the people would see his sincerity and honesty.
Adv Seoula Vas, who is contesting from Ward No 3 said, “The former councilor who is contesting against me has only scams and corruption to his credit and I have documentary evidence of the same which will be revealed shortly.”
She said, “The so called alliance between Goa Forward Party and the Congress was nothing but an attempt to divide the council as the councilor will not jointly think of MMC but will only consider about their Assembly segment.”
Dismissing the former councilor, who is now a candidate’s claim that there has been no development in the ward, she pointed out that the ward was represented by a person belonging to the same panel and he ought to answer why his colleague did not develop the area.
She stressed on the need to bring about development where people can become self-reliant and dismissed claims of having cleaned gutters or built them. “That is not the work of a councilor,” she said while demanding development.
