PANJIM: Four days after being in complete darkness, the Panjim Municipal Complex power supply was restored after the Corporation of City of Panjim (CCP) gave a written undertaking to clear all dues.
On October 1, directions had also been issued to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) to pay the dues of Rs five crore, which have been pending since 2003.
On October 2, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said he had directed Power Minister Nilesh Cabral to restore power supply at the earliest to Panjim Municipal Market.
However, till Friday evening it was not done. The electricity was finally restored only after an undertaking was issued from the CCP.
The undertaking said that the payment of over Rs five crores would be made in installments and the first installment of Rs 1 cr would be done on October 15.
The undertaking by CCP Commissioner Sanjith Rodrigues said, “with the
reference for your request to clear the long outstanding dues of Panjim Municipal Market pending under the Consumer No MKT-1141-73.30 CA No 60000007319, I am to submit herewith that an amount of Rs 1 crore would be deposited as 1st installment pertaining to the pending arrears on 15/10/2019.”
Further, he said the subsequent payment will be done in mutually agreeable installments on predetermined dates.
The undertaking further states that, “In view of the above submissions, you are kindly requested to reconnect the electricity connection at Panjim Municipal Market. You will be free to disconnect the connection in case the payment as indicated is not done.”
The undertaking was given to Assistant Engineer (O&M) Electricity department and copy forwarded to OSD to Power Minister, Director of Municipal Administration and AE Sub Div II (Com) Panjim.
