PANJIM: Civil service aspirants in the State are failing to clear the inital round of the Computer Based Recruitment Test (CBRT) forcing Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) to re-advertise the posts.
While in Agriculture Department, out of 24 vacancies of assistant agriculture officers (AAO) advertised, just four candidates cleared the initial examination process to qualify for the interview held on Thursday; three other departments did not have a single candidate going into the next round.
The Commission will now re-advertise the vacant posts shortly in what would be a second opportunity to job aspirants to find a place in the successful candidates’ list. Herald contacted the GPSC Commissioner Jose Manuel Noronha, who advised students to undergo thorough preparation for the exams.
“I think our Goan candidates need to prepare seriously for these examinations. In recent times, GPSC has been finding it difficult to fill some posts because although there are qualified candidates they fail to clear our shortlisting exams. While our students are intelligent they need to prepare well,” he said.
Seven exams for posts in various departments were held at different examination centres recently. With 99 persons of those who applied for 24 posts of AAO answered the CBRT, only four – one general category, two OBC and one ST – cleared it and were interviewed by the experts’ panel on Thursday.
For Junior Opthalmic Surgeon and Librarian, four and three candidates in the respective two areas, have been shortlisted while no candidates cleared the CBRT for Junior Gynecology (1 post), Assistant Professor Marathi (1) and Commercial Taxes Officer (2). The short listing exams for these posts were conducted on May 26, 2019.
The posts advertised include planning officer, programme officer, faculty for various government colleges, block development officers. The CBRT for four posts of BDO will be held on Sunday. Noronha said that 1,098 applications have been received for the 75-marks exam.
In a slight change of pattern initiated with CBRT for AAO, the reasoning section will carry 25 marks, which was 10 marks earlier. The Chairman said that to qualify for the interview round, candidates in the general category should achieve 60 percent while 55 percent for the OBC. The four BDO posts are reserved for general (3) and OBC (1) category.
GPSC is the first organisation in the State to successfully adopt the CBRT, which it held for the first time for the post of junior scale officers in 2017 with an aim to bringing efficiency, transparency in recruitment process. The initiative of Noronha had negative mark to every wrong answer. GPSC, however, did away with the negative marks thereafter.
