PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday told the State Legislative Assembly that none of the educational institutions, who are availing government grants, can ask for donations from the students.
Replying to the issue raised by two former chief ministers Paratapsingh Rane and Digambar Kamat on the floor of the House, the Chief Minister said none of the parents are coming forward to give their complaints to the department so that we can act.
“When government is paying everything then the question of donations does not arise. Parents should cooperate and complain against whoever is demanding donations, it should be brought to our notice,” the Chief Minister said.
He said there must be at least 50 such institutes demanding donations.
Earlier, Paratapsingh Rane said that schools which accepting grants should not be allowed to demand donations from the parents and added that some of the school managements seek donations in cash.
“I wanted to send two orphan children in one of the schools where they had demanded donations. I called them and asked whether I can pay in cheque but they replied ‘only cash’,” Rane informed the House.
Paratapsingh Rane urged the government to take steps to stop the donation menace in such schools or else stop giving grants to these institutions, he added.
