CM meets Union Fin Min in Delhi, seeks funds for upcoming National Games in Goa

Says discussed various other issues related to GST and development of State

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and discussed various issues related to the development of the State and sought the Centre’s support for the government’s various initiatives including the hosting of the National Games from October-November this year.

The Chief Minister, who had left for the national capital on Thursday evening, met Sitharaman on Friday morning. “Met Hon’ble Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Smt. @nsitharamanji in New Delhi today,” Sawant tweeted. 

The Chief Minister said he discussed various issues related to GST and the development of the State and Union Finance Minister assured him that the Centre will support the State government’s initiatives including hosting of upcoming National Games to be held in Goa from October 25 to November 9. 

Stating that the Centre had always given its continued support to the State, Sawant recalled that the Union Finance Minister had released a grant of Rs 300 crore to the Goa government to celebrate the 60 years of Goa liberation. 

Sawant said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the National Games either on October 25 or 26, depending upon his availability.

Later, the Chief Minister Met Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Anurag Thakur. After the meeting, Sawant said, “Interacted on various aspects of organisation of the National Games to be held in Goa. I thank him assuring all support for the Games in Goa.”

The Chief Minister said that he also held a preparatory meeting with Thakur, who is also Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting ahead of steering committee meeting for 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held in Goa from November 20-28 this year.
