PANJIM: Stating he will not allow any loopholes in the investigations, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday said he is personally monitoring the probe into the death of Fr Bismarque Dias and has asked the investigators to update him on a daily basis.
“On day one itself I told the police to give me a preliminary report but they could not as the viscera report is awaited, but they have updated me on the case,” Parsekar told Herald over the phone.
Parsekar said he has asked the police to submit the report at the earliest without waiting for the viscera report, which may take months. “Fr Bismarque’s family members met me today and I have assured them support from the government,” he said.
Giving details of the meeting, he said, “The family has some suspicion as Fr Bismarque was a good swimmer and not a person who would commit suicide and hence they feel that the theory of suicide and drowning is out of question,” Parsekar said.
He added, “They have also asked for government support in getting the viscera report at the earliest, to which I can only say is that I do not know the procedure of how the viscera analysis is done. I am told there is a backlog of hundreds of cases but, this being a special case, we will pursue it at the earliest and I will use my good offices to get the report at the earliest.”
“Only if the chemical analysis can be done within 3-4 days can we get the report early. If the procedure takes time then we can’t help,” he said.
He added, “I have already directed the concerned officials to look into the matter and update me.”
