Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to discuss the future of civil aviation operations at Dabolim International Airport, a key issue for Goa’s connectivity and tourism sector.
Following the meeting, CM Sawant said that the Defence Minister reassured him that civil operations at Dabolim Airport will continue, while giving due consideration to Goa’s interests and requirements. The discussions focused on ensuring smooth coordination between defence and civil authorities so that passengers do not face inconvenience and the state’s aviation needs are adequately met.
Dabolim Airport, which operates as a civil enclave within a defence airbase, remains crucial for domestic and international travel to and from Goa. The Chief Minister said the assurance from the Defence Minister brings relief to Goans, especially at a time when concerns were being raised about the future of civilian flights from the airport.
The state government, he added, will continue to work closely with the Centre and the defence authorities to safeguard Goa’s civil aviation interests and ensure seamless air connectivity for residents and tourists alike.
