PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday chaired a meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority to review monsoon preparedness at the Mantralaya in Porvorim.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Chief Minister stated, “Landslide, flood-prone zones have been identified and instructions have been given to the departments and funds have been approved for them.”
He added that Deputy Collectors have each been sanctioned Rs 5 lakh, with provision for additional funds if required. “Offices of the Deputy Collectors will work 24×7 and line departments have been instructed to keep their phones live 24×7,” Sawant said, noting that all disaster management centres are operational.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister said that every department has been directed to appoint a dedicated Nodal Officer to respond to any queries or issues during the monsoon period. Financial disbursals have been approved as follows: Rs 35,000 for each village panchayat, Rs 60,000 for B category municipalities, and Rs 1,10,000 for A category municipalities for pre-monsoon works.
Sawant further instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to identify and act on dilapidated and dangerous structures, including carrying out demolitions where necessary. The Water Resources Department (WRD) has been directed to undertake desilting of rivers to minimise flood risks.
