Says stringent steps taken to curb illegal flow of liquor

Virtually ruling out CBI inquiry into the excise scam, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said that the State has taken stringent measures to check large-scale revenue leakage and curb the illegal flow of liquor.
“We will take stringent measures to plug the loopholes in the revenue leakage,” Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said in the House on Tuesday while replying to the cut motions tabled by the Opposition.
He said the State has introduced the multicolored permits which will help in checking revenue leakage.
“We have asked the States to check multicolored permits before allowing the vehicles in or out,” he stated.
Kamat said that the States should cross check with the State.
We have also asked Karnataka and Maharashtra to re-confirm the permit with us before issuing the transport permit, he said.
“We have also asked each State where the liquor comes or goes to send a monthly statement of transaction on import or export of liquor,” Kamat said adding “Goa too will send the monthly statement to all the States.”
Besides, he said, for the first time the State government has taken steps to check all exports of liquor to be checked by Customs.
“We have also taken steps for computerising the entire department through which we will be able to check the movement of every bottle produced in Goa,” Kamat said.
The Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar had asked for a CBI probe into the excise revenue leakage, which he had estimated was to the tune of Rs 100 crore.
However Kamat said that the steps taken by the department is good enough to plug the loopholes.
“We have transferred everybody from the commissioner to assistant excise commissioner to inspector so that there is no scope for manipulation,” he said.
