CM says new Raj Bhavan needed; accuses Cong of playing politics

BICHOLIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Sunday said there is a need for a new Raj Bhavan and accused the Congress of playing politics on the issue.

“The building is old and there is a need to plan for the future. Next to this building we had planned another building,” Dr Pramod Sawant informed.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Yojana (PMANY) and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) at Ravindra Bhavan Sanquelim in the presence of Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit; Deputy Collector Deepak Vaingankar; SMC Chairman Yeshwant Madkar and others.

Expressing surprise over Congress statement that he is trying to get casino in the old building, Dr Sawant said, “They accuse me, stating that I want to get casino in the old Raj Bhavan building, but they should remember that it was the Congress that brought casino into Goa and not the BJP”.

“We are working towards ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat and the State’. We are trying to uplift the youth in various sectors by providing them with new opportunities. We know that most businesses have stopped due to the pandemic and through these schemes we are trying to help them,” he said.

He informed that through PMGKY around 43 vendors from Sanquelim have applied for loan and they will get the loan at reduced rate of interest of 3 per cent.  He informed about several schemes that his government is undertaking with the help of the Central government.

Pandit said, “The District Collectorate is launching a special awareness vehicle to disseminate information with regards to preventive measures to be taken during the pandemic.” 

The vehicle inaugurated by the Chief Minister will travel across North Goa to spread the awareness on COVID.
