PANJIM: The State will commemorate Goa Revolution Day on Monday to recall the sacrifices of freedom fighters and Martyrs of Goa’s Liberation.
A government function has been organised at the Martyr’s memorial at Azad Maidan, Panjim at 9 am wherein Governor Mridula Sinha will place wreath at the Martyr’s memorial followed by the Speaker, Goa Legislative Assembly Pramod Sawant, Council of Ministers, Leader of Opposition, Babu Kavlekar and freedom Fighters.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is already in Goa after a three month long treatment in the USA, is not sure of attending the function even as speculations are rife about his brief presence. Parrikar, during his recent interaction with BJP karyakartas he had said he would not attend public functions but will work for 6-7 hours daily and take rest.
The State Home Department’s Office Memorandum (OM) with regards to Revolution Day Celebration had last week fuelled speculation of Parrikar’s homecoming.
In an office memorandum issued on June 6, Home Department said that the chief minister would attend the Revolution Day function at Azad Maidan and that he would be received by Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma and Director General of Police Dr Muktesh Chander. It also stated that Parrikar will receive Goa Governor Dr Mridula Sinha, who is the chief guest of the event and deliver his speech.
