CUNCOLIM: Cuncolim Municipal Council resolved to take strict action against illegal bore wells and illegal scrap yards in the Municipal area.
The Council gave strict instructions to the Chief officer and administrative staff to fix a date for a joint inspection of all illegal scrap yards and bore wells and close them if they are found bypassing the laws.
Agitated councillors said hundreds of bore wells have been constructed at the Industrial estate. “Some of them are using this water for commercial purpose. They are selling this bore well water to industries. The Chief officer has been asked to take strict action against these illegalities,” said a councillor.
Some councilors said the scrap yards are mushrooming at the IDC with migrant workers collecting plastic garbage from every ward. “It is a threat to children and women. There is a need to give the migrant labourers some Identity Card,” said some councillors.
Councillors expressed their anger for the biased attitude of officers towards illegal constructions and have asked the CO to act without favouritism with all illegal constructions.
Council also decided to auction market Sopo which presently the CMC is collecting directly.
