PANJIM: Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping, Waterways and Tourism Shripad Naik on Monday replied to Goa Forward Party (GFP) President and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai’s request to look into the matter of the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) being turned into a coal hub.
In his reply, Naik has assured Sardesai that he will examine the matter, which has been mentioned and take a decision in the interest of the State.

Last week, Sardesai had written a letter to Naik urging him to use his portfolios to put a stop to Mormugao Port as coal hub and instead make in an international cruise destination.
Vijai had further stated that the only beneficiaries of making “Goem” a coal transportation hub will be the big business lobbies, who will transport the coal and the MPT.
The GFP president had also asked the Union Minister to be Goa’s voice in Delhi.
Later Vijai tweeted, “I welcome @Shripaddnaik statement assuring #Goemkars that he will look into the MPT coal issue in the best interest of our State. I urged the Minister to be the voice of #Goans in Delhi and look forward to his Goan-centric steps to promote Goa as a clean tourism destination.”
