MARGAO: The Colva Civic and Consumer Forum (CCCF) has hit out at the Tourism Department for remaining a silent spectator as garbage keeps mounting along the coastline here despite complaints being filed against the stinking nuisance.

The forum highlighted the heaps of garbage that had accumulated on the beach during the New Year period, creating an eyesore for locals and thousands of domestic and international tourists visiting the popular destination.
CCCF president Judith Almeida slammed the authorities for their failure to implement scientific waste management solutions, stating, “Goa has capable local experts who can address these issues, but the government continues to ignore their expertise.” She also criticized the administration for prioritizing unsustainable development over the state’s natural heritage.
While CCCF’s complaints reflect a larger problem of neglect, workers were seen clearing the waste. A worker at the site explained that waste bags had been transported to a treatment plant earlier in the day, and efforts were ongoing to address the remaining backlog.
Locals, however, pointed out that such lapses have become routine, tarnishing Goa’s image as a world-class tourist destination. The situation, they said, demands urgent and consistent attention from the authorities.
The situation along the Colva stretch has worsened over the last fortnight. The pristine coastline is lined up with plastic, glass and plastic bottles, bags, sringes and other waste which makes it look very messy.
