Margao police arrested one Steven from Colva in connection with the assault on a MMC worker at the New market on Friday.
The arrest drew loud protests from PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, who questioned the arrest of the Colva resident without any reason. A fuming Alemao disclosed plans to visit the municipal building with his supporters to know the true facts.
The incident is believed to have occurred in the New Market area when the worker accused Steven of slapping him and bringing him to the civic body. The incident infuriated the MMEA, who pressed the CO Y B Tawde to lodge a police complaint. The Association maintained that the worker Sadashiv Zamune was only discharging his duties of clearing encroachments.Steven was arrested and later released on bail.
