Communidade activist dead

Noted Communidade activist and former Chicalim Communidade attorney Ashok Shankwalkar (57) passed away after brief illness on Sunday.
Shankwalkar died of cancer at SMRC Chicalim. He fought many legal battles to evict encroachers on Chicalim Communidade land.
Shankwalkar was also instrumental in challenging government ordinance regularizing illegal constructions. The cases is still pending before the High Court.
He also took up various other issues for Communidade, including challenging levy of taxes on Communidade income. Shankwalkar is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
