In an unusual situation, the chief officer of the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has filed a police complaint against a dead man in connection with a fraud to the tune of over Rs 40 lakh.
In a police complaint on Wednesday, PMC Chief Officer Jayant Tari has stated that PMC’s former head accountant M Ali had misappropriated the funds between 2006 and 2008.
M Ali subsequently expired on April 2, 2008.
It may be recalled that the Comptroller and Auditor General of India had also mentioned about the misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs 40.77 lakh in its report, which recently was tabled in the Goa Assembly.
The CAG had observed that short remittance of revenue receipts into a bank account had resulted in misappropriation of Ponda Municipal Council’s revenue amounting to Rs 40.77 lakh.
Ponda police has registered the case and investigations are being carried out by PSI Deepak Pednekar.
