PANJIM: Padmashree Remo Fernandes has alleged the complaint against him as an attempt to extort money even as he filed an intervention petition before the Children’s Court on Tuesday seeking permission to submit certain facts.
In a two-page intervention petition filed through his lawyer Advocate Rajeev Gomes on Tuesday, the fusion artist, identifying himself as a Portuguese national has also accused lawyer activist Aires Rodrigues of implicating him in the false case of verbal abuse.
“Intervenor has no objection to this Court monitoring the investigation, certain facts have to placed before this Court which have not been placed by the Applicant (lawyer activist Aires Rodrigues), and the non-disclosure of which have a tendency of misleading this Court,” reads his petition.
Remo is also open to court monitoring the investigation in connection with the FIR registered against him at Agassaim police station for allegedly abusing an accident victim at Goa medical college.
He is booked under Section 8 read with 2 (m) of the Goa Children’s Act for abusing the juvenile at GMC, where she is undergoing treatment for injuries she sustained after a car driven by Remo’s son Jonah knocked her down at Mapusa on December 1. The case was registered taking cognizance of a complaint filed by Rodrigues.
“Since he (Remo) did not comply with the illegitimate amount this complaint was lodged. It is an extortion attempt,” Adv Gomes told Herald adding that Remo will move for anticipatory bail.
The applicant stated that the FIR was registered and summons issued on him on December 19 when he was already left for Portugal on December 7. The police, through his previous advocate was informed that he is out of station and would arrive back to Goa only on the January 8, 2016.
“It is highly impossible to reach Goa before that day, but the Applicant (Remo) is making all efforts to be in Goa before that date,” he said adding, “… that any orders that may be passed by this Court will affect the life and liberty of the Intervenor and therefore he deserves to be heard… The Court to be pleased to permit to intervene in the present application.”
While claiming innocence, the singer has accused Rodrigues of falsely implicating him in the case. The matter will be argued on January 1, 2016.
The police has in the meanwhile sought CCTV footage of GMC’s ward number 105 where the 17-year-old was allegedly abused by Remo.
“During the course of investigation, we moved letter to the medical superintendent of GMC with a request to provide detailed list of staff on duty and CCTV footage on the same day,” police sub inspector Harish Raut Desai told the court in response to the notice seeking details of the investigation. Rodrigues had filed a plea before the juvenile’s court seeking it to monitor the case investigation allegin that alleged accused is trying to abuse his power and political contacts to thwart the investigation.
SP Umesh Gaonkar has denied allegation terming it as ‘baseless and without any foundation.’
