Comunidade staff defend strike

MARGAO: Striking employees of the South Goa Administrator of Comunidade have said that their nine-day strike is not illegal as declared by the South Goa district Collector.

In a reply addressed to the Comunidade Administrator, the employees said they had submitted the notice of pen down strike well in advance – on January 13, with a subsequent notice on January 27.
The employees made it amply clear to the Administrator that their strike will continue till their salary dues are paid to them with a further assurance that the salary problem will be solved permanently by protecting the interest of the employees.
“This problem in the delay in payment of salaries has been faced by us for more than 10 years now. There is no permanent solution to the problem despite several representations and requests,” the employees said, while reminding the Administrator that the loans obtained by them for housing, vehicles, children’s education, etc, have become Non Performing Assets due to non-payment of monthly instalments.
