PANJIM: The Congress party Monday alleged that the recent cases of suspected midday meal poisoning has resulted from lack of supervision by the State government and lack of coordination between Education Department and Food and Drugs Administration.
“It is unfortunate that when the Centre is spending so much for the scheme, there is no proper supervision by the local government,” Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Working President Francisco Sardinha said at a press conference at the Congress House Monday.
He urged the FDA and education departments to coordinate with each other to ensure that quality food is served to students.
“Non coordination between the Education Department and FDA has led to such instances affecting the school students,” he alleged.
Sardinha suggested that self help groups which prepare the food should taste the cooked food to see if it is okay before serving it to the students.
“The representatives of the SHGs should taste the food to ensure it is not contaminated,” he stated.
Sardinha also castigated the BJP-led Goa government over the soaring vegetable and meat prices where he suggested increasing the number of outlets to sell vegetables at reasonable rates to the consumers. Sardinha also urged the State government to come to the rescue of mining dependent.
“Many truck owners had bought vehicles through bank loans. These vehicles are on the verge of being taken away by the banks,” he said claiming that a delegation of truckers had met him expressing their grievances. He said the party requests the government to bail them out of the problem.
Meanwhile, Sardinha also demanded that government immediately resume sand extraction to prevent illegalities and avoid man-made shortage of sand, marble and stones for constructions.
