SANGUEM: The election campaign for South Goa Congress candidate Francisco Sardinha is in full swing in Sanguem constituency and is gaining momentum as the mandate day draws closer.
With over 60 percent of the villagers residing in the interior villages and on hilly areas, Sardinha is likely to enjoy an upper hand in Sanguem constituency considering the work done by party leader Savitri Kavlekar in the constituency since last assembly elections.
Even after suffering defeat in the last hustings, Kavlekar did not stop working in Sanguem constituency but kept visiting the remote areas for every function and important occasions in the village while simultaneously rendering whatever possible help that could come from her side.
In the last Lok Sabha elections, BJP had secured 13,070 votes in Sanguem as against 5500 votes polled by the Congress. However, this time around, the story would be different.
The 5500 votes polled by Congress in the last Lok Sabha polls are traditional Congress votes and this the Congress got even after not having good party leaders to work in the Constituency.
However now, with Savitri Kavlekar working day and night with a large number of youth and other party supporters, things are expected to change a lot and Congress is expected to have an upper hand in the Constituency.
“Sardinha is also not knew in Sanguem; he is having a lot many ardent supporters in the constituency besides friends and well wishers who work for him in the coming hustings,” claims Youth Congress President Messiah Da Costa.
Sardinha recently visited the constituency along with Savitri Kavlekar, Messiah D Costa, Mahila Block President Sanguem Josephine Fernandes, Dr Revsnsiddh Naik, Shrikant G Naik and others and was very much pleased with the response he got from the voters in the constituency.
