PANJIM: Ruling out all the possibilities of holding grand alliance with the Independent MLAs, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday announced that the party is gearing up to go alone during the 2017 Assembly election, contesting all 40 constituencies.
Speaking to media persons soon after the party executive committee meeting in the morning, Singh said that grand alliance cannot take place with the Independent MLAs, but can only happen with the political parties. “Only political parties can come together and form a grand alliance. There cannot be alliance with independent MLAs,” he said.
The statement comes a day after three Independent legislators-Vijay Sardesai, Rohan Khaunte and Naresh Sawal announced to back like-minded people to form a third alternative to BJP and Congress in the State during the forthcoming general elections.
“Mahagatbandhan (MLAs) need to be aggressive in Assembly, there is no point in making just announcement through media,” AICC leader said.
Singh alleged that Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar acts like “Defacto Chief Minister”, spending maximum time in Goa then in Delhi.
“Parrikar is acting as defacto CM and spends most of his time in Goa then in Delhi…he is seen in Goa,” Singh said.
“I have even heard that he (Parrikar) has even set up defence camp in Goa….unheard about such thing in the past,” he commented.
