PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Saturday opposed the move of the State government which is introducing the Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) in the State.
GPCC demanded a data base on the landmass of cities and others areas of Goa before going ahead with the TDR.
Addressing the media, GPCC leader Jitendra Deshprabhu said, “There is an effort on the part of the government to bring about TDR for reasons best know to them. A similar activity was done by BJP in 2002 and I on the Floor of the House had opposed this.”
He added, “TDR is to be introduced in areas where there is no additional build up area available for development and this they seek to surrender at a price to a developer. Later this transfer rights are utilised for FAR and this is how TDR has been designed.”
He said that Goa has no such place for TDR and this cannot be introduced when you have large tracts of open spaces.
“This is done to promote their gain. Congress opposes this move of the State government which has promoted bringing about the TDR business in the State. We reiterate that unless a complete data base is created of cities and other parts, the government should not go ahead with TDR,” Deshprabhu added.
