PANJIM: Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence over resolving the mining problem that hit the State nearly four months ago, Congress on Friday said that the Prime Minister’s careless attitude proves he has no concern for the people of Goa.
The opposition also demanded that the BJP-led government in the State should step down for its failure to work out solution to the mining crisis and provide relief to the people, dependent on the industry for livelihood.
Addressing a press conference, Congress general secretary Yatish Naik questioned why the Prime Minister failed to meet the State government delegation, which had approached the Centre twice seeking its intervention for immediate resumption of mining activities.
“It is nearly four months since the Supreme Court passed its judgment on February 7, to suspend mining operations. Since then till date, Prime Minister has been silent on the issue. This clearly shows that he has no concern for the people of Goa,” Naik said.
“BJP’s central leadership in Delhi is not interested in solving the problem that has arisen due to mining ban in the State. The silence shows, the seriousness of BJP’s central leadership toward Goa in the absence of Manohar Parrikar,” Naik commented.
Naik also said that the State government has also been left helpless in resolving the mining issue in absence of the Chief Minister. “The Government is headless, incompetent and incapable to handle the mining issue. In such a situation, we demand that this government step down,” he said.
