Cong remembers Nehru, says he built strong, independent and modern India

PANJIM/MARGAO: Goa Congress unit on Wednesday paid tribute to India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 55th death anniversary at its head office in Panjim. 

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, MP Francis Sardinha and GPCC member Shambu Bhau Bandekar, were among the party leaders who were also present to offer their tributes.

Sardinha said Nehru contribution in building and transforming India cannot be forgotten and ignored. He said that Nehru built strong, independent and modern India that helped the democracy to survive even today. 

Later, Kamat said Nehru was instrumental in setting up the National Institute of Virology, which has great relevance and importance in current COVID-19 pandemic. 

Meanwhile, the South Goa District Congress Committee observed the death anniversary of Late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. 

Floral tributes were offered to the late prime minister at the South Goa District Congress office. 

Ravi Naik, Luizinho Faleiro, Aleixo Sequeira and others paid tributes to Nehru. 

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar said, “Nehru took the country from darkness of poverty and dark period to light. He made the country into modern India and the foundation was strong.” 

“The BJP and RSS leaders today don’t know the importance of Nehru,” he added.
