MARGAO: Congress Party on Saturday demanded the State and the Central government to cut down petrol price to Rs 35.63 per litre and diesel to Rs 38.16 per litre, as more hundreds of Congress supporters held a cycle rally in protest against rise in fuel prices at Margao.
It was a part of ongoing nationwide agitation launched by the Congress Party to register a strong opposition against the spiralling rise in the fuel price and also increase in the prices of essential commodities including edible oil and cooking gas.
The cycle rally was attended by the Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, GPCC President Girish Chodankar, Vice-President and in-charge of agitation program Altinho Gomes, besides Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro, Mahila Congress President Beena Naik, South Goa District President Joe Dias, and others.
Digambar while addressing the rally said that this BJP government has failed in fulfilling the assurance given at the time of elections. “BJP had assured that they will have control on the fuel price rise, however, they failed. It must be noted that at the time of Congress government BJP leaders and supporters used to come on the road and protest for fuel rise but now none of them is seen on the road, despite prise at sky-rocket”, he criticised.
While Luizinho said that fuel prices are dependent on international prices. “The fuel price at international level has come down from 100 odd dollars to 31 dollars per barrel. It has come down to the lowest but the petrol, diesel, and gas prices have gone to the sky in India”, he stated.
The rally started at Lohia Maidan and ended at the Congress South Goa district office near the District Collector building.
