Congress MLA Altone D’Costa Files Nomination for Goa Assembly Speaker

Congress MLA Altone D’Costa on Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the post of Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly before Legislature Secretary Namrata Ulman.

The nomination, representing the Opposition, was witnessed by LoP Yuri Alemao, MLA Carlos Ferreira, and AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva.

The Opposition has proposed two candidates for the Speaker’s post. Altone D’Costa was proposed and seconded by AAP MLA Venzy Viegas, while MLA Carlos Ferreira was proposed and seconded by Cruz Silva.

“We, the Opposition, are united,” said Alemao. He added that MLA Viresh Borkar is away at Velankanni, and he had spoken to MLA Vijay Sardesai, who assured his support to the Opposition.

The Governor of Goa has summoned the Legislative Assembly on September 25, 2025, to conduct the election for the Speaker.
