MAPUSA: The North Goa District Congress Committee President Vijay Bhike on Friday slammed the BJP government over the rising prices of essential commodities and inflation.
Bhike stated that prices of staple food of people of Goa that is fish, vegetables and eggs have touched the sky.
“With the Grace of God, Goa is blessed with nature where Goan people can harvest good local produce be it fish, vegetables, fruits, grains, dairy or poultry. However, the government has failed to provide the required support for the farmers, fishermen and for the produce of Goa,” he said.
He lamented that essential commodities is beyond the reach of the common man.
“The bread in the State has reached Rs 5; eggs and poultry prices have risen. Onion prices have started shooting up like gold; and instead of improving the life of common man, the government is more concerned about projects and infrastructure development. Instead of giving subsidy to people to run their business, the government is importing fish from other States which are of low quality and sell at high price. Goa could be self sufficient in fish, but the government doesn’t provide support to local Goan fishermen,” Bhike said.
Rejecting the government’s claim that there is enough water for Goa, Bhike said, “People hardly receive water and that too dirty water.”
