PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Thursday granted conditional bail to contractor Vishwas Desai, accused in the Ruby residency building collapse case, on personal bond of Rs 1 lakh.
In his order, the single bench of Justice U V Bakre also asked him to appear before the crime branch officials when summoned, cooperate with the investigation and not to make any inducement, threat or promise to any person acquainted with the facts of the case so as to dissuade him from disclosing such facts to the Court or to any police officer.’
Desai, who is among other government officers charged with serious criminal charges into the building collapse in which 31 persons died, is also directed to surrender his passport.
Thirty one labourers were killed and several injured after the under construction building collapsed at Chawdi-Canacona on January 4. The police have booked various government officers, who were arrested and some of whom are out on bail.
However, the investigating agency is still unable to locate the whereabouts of prime accused – ex-directors of Bharat Developers Jagdeep Saigal and Pradip Singh Birring.
