The protest at Azad Maidan comes days after Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant handed over to them a letter of increment at the same protest venue.

“We demand regularisation of our service. On Friday, we will be joined by women contractual teachers to strengthen our demand from the government. We won’t give up till our demand is met,” said one of the teachers.

The teachers recalled that during the tenure of Congress government followed by BJP government led by late Manohar Parrikar several teachers were regularised. They sought to know what was stopping the present government from following the same footsteps.

Last month, the same contractual teachers — demanding hike in salary — were given an increment letter from the CM wherein their salary was hiked from Rs 16,000 to Rs 25,000.
