PANJIM: In a bid to encourage and promote river tourism during the monsoon, the Captain of Ports (CoP) has permitted water sports activities in the State’s inland waters.
The CoP has identified Sal, Chapora, Zuari and Dona Paula bay for undertaking the water sports activities from June to August-end. The activities will be allowed between 9 am and 6pm.
The water sports activities along the beach belts have been currently stopped due to rough sea conditions, which is a common phenomenon during monsoons.
As per the notification issued by Captain James Braganza, the department sanctions permits for water sports activities confined to inland waters only and during fair weather of the monsoon.
“All water sports activities should be stopped immediately during any adverse weather condition and any weather intimation from CoP or Indian Metrological Department,” Braganza said.
He said that the water sports operators granted permission should operate in their respective villages and from their own property to avoid any disputes and disrupt of harmony.
Captain said the permission would stand immediately withdrawn in case of congestion, local fisherman’s problems, safety of navigation, etc.
