A 29-year old constable attached to the Tourist Police Unit (TPU) succumbed to his injuries after a Mahar ashtra-registered car al legedly rammed into his two-wheeler in the early hours of Sunday and its driver fled the scene, trig gering yet another hit-and run case on Goa’s roads. The deceased, Kedar Ga wade, a resident of Cumb harjua, was riding his two-wheeler when the ac cident occurred at Baga, in Calangute at around 4 am. Personnel from the Cal angute police rushed him to the district hospital in Mapusa, from where he was later shifted to Goa Medical College and Hos pital (GMC), Bambolim, for advanced treatment.
The impact of the collision left Gawade with severe head injuries. However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Police identified the driver of the car as Sajid Sheikh, a resident of Kolhapur in Maharashtra. Sheikh allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled immediately after the accident. He remained untraceable till late Sunday. Investigators subsequently tracked down the own er of the car and summoned him to the Calangute po lice station for questioning on Sunday afternoon.
Calangute police have registered a case and further investigation is in progress to trace the absconding driver and ascertain the circumstances leading to the crash.
