PANJIM: The Goa police are tight lipped on further arrests of criminals under the stringent National Security Act, a day after history sheeter Zenito Cardozo was arrested by the Panjim police.
DIG O P Mishra, when asked during a press conference Thursday, refused to divulge details about possible arrests claiming ‘it is not proper’ to speak on State security.
The alleged gangster, a resident of Santa Cruz is involved in several crimes such as house breaking, thefts, recruiting juveniles from Apna Ghar for committing criminal acts and other grievous crimes such as murder, gang rivalry, rioting and extortion.
Zenito’s involvement was also suspected in the murder of another gangster Salvador Fernandes alias Gallu at Miramar in 2011.
With this arrest, he will also face inquiry by the magistrate based on details of all cases against him, provided by the police.
A list of 132 anti-social elements in North Goa was submitted to the District Magistrate against whom police contemplated action by invoking NSA against them. The magistrate has reportedly approved some more names of notorious criminals besides Zenito who need to be dealt with under provision of NSA 1980. They will possibly face arrests in the near future.
The State government, last December, invoked NSA for a period of three months to crackdown on anti social elements.
