OLD GOA: Residents of Corlim have resolved at a Gram Sabha to stop all multi-storied mega projects in the village and also felt that all village roads should be restricted to a width of less than 5 metres.
The Gram Sabha also passed a resolution demanding Special Status for Goa and residents asked the panchayat to forward the resolution to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on behalf of villagers of Corlim.
The villagers also deliberated on the issue of road widening of roads in Corlim and noted that widening of Corlim roads would entail the demolition of religious structures and houses. Hence, they felt that all village roads should be limited to less than 5 metres width.
It was also resolved that a buffer zone of a 1.5 km radius from the panchayat building be established to prevent the construction of any new multi-storied building.
Expressing unhappiness over the existing water and electricity supply to Corlim, the residents resolved that all new applications for water and electricity be carefully studied by the Corlim Panchayat and the details should be communicated to the respective departments.
The villagers also brought to the notice of the panchayat that approved plans of a mega-project of 96 flats in Corlim has shown the existing road width of the village road as 6 mtrs on the TCP plan, which was different from ground realities.
The panchayat assured to call for an inspection of the road near the construction of the concerned project by the Town & Country Planning Department and Public Works Department (pwd).
Meanwhile, the Gram Sabha which was presided by Sarpanch Supriya Kerkar along with the secretary and other panchas, passed a surplus budget of over Rs 2.7 crore for 2013-14.
