On the problem at large “We are aware of the problem about the gardens. However we have no finances. Whatever we are doing is by spending from our own funds. We are trying our best to maintain them, but it is difficult,” he told Herald, admitting that there was indeed a lacuna in maintenance even though they are employing 25 labourers for work like maintenance of lawns.
On the plan to make the corporate do some gardening.
“In fact we are thinking of roping in corporates to maintain gardens. In fact, the draft of the expression of interest is before the CCP commissioner for the past three months,” he said, adding, “Once he clears it, than the work can be tendered and companies can be roped in. They will have to maintain the gardens and generate revenues by putting up boards and such other activities.”
Two of the gardens –the Francisco Luis Gomes garden at Campal and the Ambedkar garden at the bus stand are being maintained by the Forest department. The others are all being looked after by the CCP.
