PERNEM: Within 24 hours, the Pernem Police arrested the couple accused of killing a Siolim resident in the Pernem jungle on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that a body was found in the Pernem jungle on Tuesday. The victim was identified as Sarvesh Khadapkar, 30-year-old resident of Guddem-Siolim.
According to Pernem police, the brother and sister-in-law of victim allegedly killed him. The incident took place on Monday when Sarvesh came home and started abusing his sister-in-law with filthy language and further tore her clothes which provoked his brother.
The husband-wife duo later assaulted the Sarvesh resulting in his death.
Sources informed that the post mortem report revealed the cause of death due to strangulation. The deceased was first hit with a heavy object behind his head and later strangulated with rope/cloth which resulted in his death.
Police informed that Sarvesh was working at a casino and has suffered losses. Sarvesh had borrowed huge amount of money from his friends and his friends use to frequently visit his house to enquire about him and the money he owed them. However, fed up with Sarvesh’s habits, his sister-in-law shared his contact number with his friends.
However, when Sarvesh came to know about it, he started abusing sister-in-law with filthy language and further tore her clothes in front of her husband. In sudden provocation, the couple assaulted him which resulted in his death.
During investigations, police verified the CCTV footage of the nearby areas and border checkpost. Police also shared details about the victim with the police stations in neighbouring state. Later when the post mortem was conducted the photo of victim circulated among the beat staff and the informant.
Reliable sources informed that the victim is a resident of Guddem-Siolim. Police later maintained vigil on his house and nabbed the couple while they were leaving their house with their belongings.
The couple later confessed to have murdered Sarvesh on July 8 and dumped his body in the jungle. The couple is booked under Section 302.
