MAPUSA: The Additional District and Sessions Court, Mapusa dismissed bail application of Sundeep Kumar of Andhra Pradesh, arrested on the charge of attempt to murder after they allegedly rammed his vehicle against a head constable.
The Calangute police had arrested Sundeep Kumar, 26, of Andhra Pradesh and currently residing at Bengaluru along with his friend Vasant Devendra Madival, 32, from Karwar for allegedly knocking down head constable Vidyanand Amonkar and dragging him to about 20 metres, while he was discharging his duties at Calangute.
While, the police were conducting a narcotic raid, they spotted a car bearing Karnataka registration number moving in a suspicious manner. The police intercepted it and head constable Amonkar detained Madival.
As he was taking Madival towards a parked police van, Sundeep Kumar allegedly drove his vehicle in reverse in a rash and negligent manner and knocked down Amonkar and dragged him to about 20 metres, while he was discharging his lawful duties.
Amonkar suffered severe injuries and was operated at the GMC and is still under treatment.
While rejecting the bail application, the Court observed that Kumar had deliberately ran over the head constable to prevent himself from being arrested. The nature of offence, severity of punishment and manner in which it was committed coupled with the fact Kumar had tried to flee from the State, all militate against the grant of bail.
