MARGAO: A Cross in front of the St Cajetan Chapel at Barebhat, Arlem was found damaged on Monday.
During investigations, the Maina Curtorim Police detained and interrogated three men, who were later released on Tuesday.
The dog squad and fingerprint experts were pressed into service following a complaint. The police and the locals have claimed that the desecration does not initially look intentional but the St Cajetan chapel committee has filed a complaint for the sake of safety and investigation.
On Tuesday, South Goa SP Arvind Gawas visited the site. To avoid unrest in the area the remains of the broken Cross have been kept inside the chapel. However, the police claimed that the incident may have occurred on the intervening night of May 21-22.
