Cumra Zor now an eyesore

MARGAO: The Cumra Zor (spring), which was originally a community leisure spot at Davorlim, has now turned out to be an eyesore as heaps of garbage and other waste is dumped into the spring.

During the traditional Sao Joao feast, the youth used to jump in the water. During the Chaturthi, the idols were immersed in the spring. However, today with the authorities turning a blind eye, the spring it has turned into garbage dump.
Local vegetable farmers use the water for agricultural purpose and in the past used to wash their vegetables with the spring water. However, the residents have now complained that the garbage dumped into the spring has contaminated the water.   “The villagers from Davorlim have been dumping garbage and washing vehicles in this spring, which is criminal,” Anand Sawant, a resident alleged.
“Either clean this spring or keep a security guard to man the site or bury the spring as we can’t see the natural asset of the village being destroyed,” Sawant added.
The residents have urged the authorities to take over the reigns of the maintenance of the spring to keep it clean.
