CUNCOLIM: Like other parts of State, Cuncolim and surrounding areas experienced the fury of Cyclone Tauktae on Sunday.

Gusty winds along with heavy rainfall put life out of gear. Many trees uprooted, electricity poles got damaged due to which whole Cuncolim town remained in dark from Saturday night to Monday evening. Electricity was not restored in many places of Cuncolim till late Monday evening.
Iron shelter which was installed in front of newly constructed Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) commercial building at Cuncolim market collapsed due to fierce winds. Iron shelter fell on the ambulance which was parked in front of the building. The ambulance was recently made available by local MLA Clafacio Dias to help the COVID patients.
The farmers also suffered huge losses.
The ready paddy yield of Dhangar farmers, which was kept in the fields, got washed away at Uskini bundh. The farmers are demanding compensation from the Agriculture Dept. A huge tree which uprooted on NH caused traffic congestion. A tanker laden with oxygen was stranded.
The administration removed the obstacles on the road to allow oxygen tanker to pass. A tin shelter of private building collapsed at Comba Paricotto. At many places, trees crashed on the houses.
The vaccination drive was also forced to put on halt due to bad weather. On Sunday, all those who booked online appointments under 18-44 years group vaccination, was sent home and Balli Primary Health Centre conducted the vaccination of all 220 youth on Monday including those of Sunday.
The cyclone kept Fire and Emergency Services personnel and Electricity Department workers busy to clear the obstacles and to restore the power supply. All mobile phones services including BSNL and other private companies such as Jio, Airtel, VI and others, connectivity was out of range for almost whole Sunday and till Monday afternoon.
Banana plantation was also damaged with all banana plants grounded due to heavy rains and gusty winds.
