CUNCOLIM: In view of the traffic congestion on Monday due to schools re-opening, Cuncolim locals called on the district administration to ensure that the PWD restores the Cuncolim-Quepem road to its original condition.
“We, the Cuncolim residents, are agitated over the irresponsible act of the PWD to close the road for the last few days, and their lethargic pace in completing the works,” said local Milton Fernandes.
The Cuncolim-Quepem road, which connects to the NH17 highway, has been dug up to clean a gutter. Locals complained that contractor’s negligence led to a telephone line being damaged while the drain was being cleaned. They added that the digging was a great inconvenience to the public, especially those with school children.
“It is surprising that the road has been closed for the last two days, and that no authority or MLA Rajan Naik or the Cuncolim Municipal Council have taken cognizance of this mess,” said Fernandes.
The locals also questioned the logic in digging the road when the monsoons were upon them. They warned the PWD and local council to ensure that the public do not have to suffer much longer due to the authorities’ lack of coordination.
