The municipal fish and chicken market adjacent to Kada Hall in Curchorem is in a severely neglected state, drawing criticism from vendors and residents alike over the inaction of the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council.

Despite the unhygienic surroundings, several chicken and fish vendors continue to operate in the market. The area appears to have gone without proper cleaning for a long time, with damaged dustbins scattered around and waste accumulating in open spaces.

The condition of the public toilets is equally alarming — the gents’ facility is reportedly broken, filthy, and emits a strong odour. Additionally, portions of the building’s ceiling plaster are falling off, posing a serious safety risk to vendors and customers.

While Council Chairperson Prasanna Bhende has assured that renovation work will be taken up soon, no specific timeline or date has been provided. In the meantime, vendors continue to work in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, raising concerns about public health and municipal negligence.
