PONDA: The Curti locals, who are struggling to protect the hills at ZingadiMoll past several years, now once again filed a complaint against tree felling at a hill located near Chirputem by one private party.
Earlier, the locals had complained about illegal road widening on Chirputem–Mardol road. The hill, where the trees are felled, is adjacent to the said road widening.

The villagers informed that the forest officials have told them that the department has not given permission for tree felling at Curti.
A month ago, the locals had complained to the various concerned authorities about the illegal road widening, suspecting that it is for development of plots, by felling trees on the hill, located adjacent to the said road. With the tree felling incident on Thursday their doubt was cleared.
The locals said, “Already road is widened by one private company illegally to facilitate development of plots and now the trees are felled on the hill adjacent to it.”
“The Forest officials told us that they have conducted panchanama of tree cutting,” they added.
However, the locals demanded that the development of plots should not be allowed on this hill as it is a source of springs as well several wild animal will become homeless if forest trees are cut.
