PONDA: The residents of Antruznagar in Curti have started guarding their area since last night after a huge heap of garbage was dumped close to their residential area.
Locals have warned that if government authorities fail to take action they would “teach the people a lesson.”
Locals are angry at government authorities for their alleged failure to curb dumping of waste material in their locality, by Ponda market vendors, tailors, chicken vendors and other passersby. Stink from the dumped waste has reportedly made life unbearable.
Yashwant Curtikar said that each household was paying Rs 60 per month to the panchayat for door-to-door collection of garbage, while the passersby get rid of their garbage without any cost by dumping them under the cover of darkness at Antruznagar.
To prevent dumping of garbage, he said, the locals have decided to guard the locality till late night by taking turns.
