Curti sarpanch calls for better planning, supervision of works to ease citizens’ hardships

Issues such as poorly restored roads and gutters have resulted in public suffering and recurrent flooding in the area, with blame often falling on the Panchayat; poor garbage management also discussed

PONDA: Harish Naik, the Sarpanch of Curti-Khandepar, has urged the government to involve the panchayat in overseeing development projects to ensure proper supervision. This call comes amidst widespread hardships faced by locals due to ongoing development works such as highway expansions, underground cabling, and sewerage projects in the Panchayat area.

Naik highlighted that while contractors and their workers are performing their tasks, the unplanned execution of these projects has led to hardships and losses for residents. Issues such as poorly restored roads and gutters have resulted in public suffering and recurrent flooding in the area, with blame often falling on the Panchayat.

During Sunday’s gram sabha meeting, discussions centred on various development issues. Naik said that the panchayat was keen on improving garbage management, and announced that the panchayat has procured two additional vehicles for door-to-door garbage collection.

Sandeep Parkar advocated for enhanced transparency within the Panchayat by proposing the establishment of a dedicated Panchayat website. He also suggested installing CCTV cameras in the Panchayat office, including the Sarpanch’s cabin, to ensure accountability and transparency.

Chandrakant Holkar raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of roads due to ongoing development activities and emphasized the need for immediate solutions.

Sherli Dias highlighted the issue of choked gutters leading to residential flooding and also brought up complaints from garbage workers regarding inadequate salaries.

Furthermore, discussions also touched upon the state of the crematorium, where the Panchayat has acquired land for Hindu, Muslim, and Catholic communities. However, there was a consensus on the necessity for proper division and demarcation among these communities, along with the provision of basic facilities for final rites.
