This demand was put forward at its recent gram sabha and villagers wanted to know why no action had been initiated against encroachments.
Based on the demands from the locals, the Curtorim panchayat has given an assurance that they would clear the encroachments in the village market area to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Shedding light on the ground reality, Panch Santan Rodrigues said that it is the PWD-acquired land and the panchayat had written several letters to the authorities concerned asking them to clear the encroachments as it is causing obstruction to smooth traffic movement, but in vain.
The villagers also raised strong objection to the housing project, located near the TB hospital, saying that the project was of no value to the village.
The gram sabha was informed that the panchayat had received a letter from the local MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco following which the panchayat had written to the TCP and collector. There were also queries from members of the gram sabha on the status of the house tax collection.
After the gram sabha, Curtorim panch Santan Rodrigues criticised the delay on the part of the health department regarding the much publicised Auyush hospital to come up at Curtorim-Macazana.
Even though the project had been announced several months ago by Ayush Minister Shripad Naik, there has been no follow up on the site where the old defunct leprosy hospital is lying in ruins.
The hospital premises no longer provides accommodation for the handful of leprosy patients, who have since been shifted to the TB sanatorium located at Moti Dongor, Margao.
