MARGAO: The new managing Committee of Cutbona Boat Owners Development Union headed by President Cipriano Cardozo on Sunday resolved to push for the development of the Cutbona jetty, besides the long pending demand for the dredging of River Sal mouth.
The new committee has further resolved to take the sopo collection of SGPDA’s wholesale fish market to improve the market infrastructure.
In the elections held on Sunday, Cipriano was elected the president, while Patrick D’Silva and Luis Cardozo as vice presidents. Other members of the Committee are General Secretary Savio Fernandes, Jt Secretary Elvis Gomes, Treasurer Joao Fernandes, Asst Treasurer Roque Dourado and Advisor John Barretto.
Elvis later told the media that the new panel will take up with the government pending issues such as sanitation, improvement of the jetty and issues such as de-silting of the river. “We will take up the matter with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar through the good offices of Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado and local MLA Benjamin D’Silva. It’s high time the government intervenes and carries out the development of the jetty,” Elvis stated.
Local MLA Benjamin D’Silva, who is a boat owner operating from the Cutbona fishing jetty, echoed similar sentiments. “A lot needs to be done at Cutbona jetty. The dock has to be expanded immediately for berthing facilities for the fishing vessels I am confident of taking up the pending works since both the chief minister and the fisheries Ministers have expressed their support to the needs of the jetty,” Benjamin said.
