PANJIM: Heavy rain showers may have only just made their presence re-felt in the past few days but their effects have been seen in the case of the dams in Selaulim, Chapoli and Panchwadi.
With the rainfall increasing since last week, the deficit has reduced to 18 percent with the met department registering a total of 2367.7 mm, a departure from a normal of 2879.7 mm. For months, water in dams that had been below the average level has now reached full capacity. This though is not posing any immediate danger, but could pose a threat if rains continue to lash the State.
The Met Department has so far predicted generally cloudy days with one or two spells of rain or thunderstorms.
The Selaulim Dam that feeds most of South Goa with water supply has a height of 42.5 metres and a length of 1004 metres.
