PANJIM: With an aim to make the capital city – Panjim soakpits free by 2020 thereby connecting every house, residential complex and commercial buildings to the sewerage system, the Imagine Panjim Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) is all set to replace over four-decade old city sewerage pipeline spread across 42 kilometers.
The IPSCDL will also launch door-to-door survey covering 8000 houses from January 15 in a bid to enhance revenue collection of the Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP), which is currently lacking in tax collection. The survey, which will envelop 52 parameters, will also give a brief idea about the lack of various public utilities like power, water, sewerage connection, etc in the particular area to IPSCDL.
Addressing media persons, IPSCDL director and vice chairman of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) Siddharat Kuncolienkar informed that under the Smart City Mission, the existing sewerage pipeline will be replaced while in operation. “The city sewerage pipeline is the oldest in the State. It was laid in 1964. We have now decided to replace it while ensuring that the process does not affect houses or traffic. We are currently looking for a technology,” he said.
“Our aim is clear that by 2020 we want to make the capital city soakpits free and ensure that every house, commercial establishment is connected with sewerage system,” he said.
Highlighting another project proposed under the Mission, former Panjim MLA said that IPSCDL along with CCP is working on a system to enhance the revenue collection of the civic body without additional burden to the citizens. “There is levy and collection of taxes, but the question is timely collection of these and also penalties for the defaulters. We are working on a dedicated system,” he said.
As part of the project, private agency CRISIL will be undertaking a month long door-to-door survey, which will also lay emphasis on issues like garbage management, sewerage connection, power and water connection and supply and other problems facing the people of that particular locality.
Rejuvenation of putrid St Inez creek, comprehensive mobility plan for the cities, introduction of powered cycles, underground cabling of all the existing cables, etc are some of the other projects proposed under the Smart City Mission, Kuncolienkar informed.
BOX- City Corporators on Smart City tour to Indore next month
IPSCDL has organised a tour of CCP corporators to Indore in Bhopal to have a glimpse of various smart city initiatives taken by the city.
The city corporators and engineers from the civic body will be touring t Indore next month, wherein they will interact with Indore Mayor Malini Laxmansingh Gaur and Smart City CEO Rohan Saxena.
